Books, payroll & credit control for butchers and small food businesses. Call 01279 912029

You're a butcher.
Not a bookkeeper.

Bookkeeping, credit control, payroll and VAT, done properly every week by someone who understands how a butcher's shop actually makes its money. Whether you're just starting out or well established.

The shop runs beautifully.
The office is a carrier bag.

Nobody opens a butcher's because they enjoy paperwork. But the paperwork is where the money leaks out: slowly, quietly, and usually without anyone noticing until the VAT is due.

Invoices raised late

The van's back, the meat's delivered, and the invoice goes out on Sunday night, if it goes out at all. Every day it sits there is a day added to when you get paid.

Seven-day terms, sixty-day payers

You agreed a week. They're taking two months. Nobody's chased them because chasing means an awkward phone call with a customer you'd rather keep.

The carrier bag of receipts

Fuel, packaging, blades, the chiller repair, the cash-and-carry run. It all goes in a bag and the bag goes to the accountant in January, nine months out of date.

Wages worked out on a Sunday

Weekly-paid staff, Saturday lads, overtime, holiday pay, the pension. Done on a calculator at the kitchen table, filed late, and the penalty letter arrives anyway.

No idea what you actually made

Turnover you know. Margin you're guessing at. Which customers are worth having and which are costing you money. Nobody's ever sat down and worked it out.

VAT done on a best guess

Raw meat is zero-rated, hot food isn't, pet mince isn't. Get the split wrong for four quarters and it's a correction, interest, and a conversation you don't want.

Bank never reconciled

Counter takings, card settlements, cash paid in, direct debits going out. If the bank's never matched to the books, the books are a story rather than a record.

Brown envelopes, unopened

Companies House, HMRC, the pension regulator. All with deadlines, all with automatic fines, none of them interested in how busy Christmas was.

None of this is a competence problem. It's a time problem. You were on the block at five, you served all day, and the office was always going to be tomorrow's job. So let someone else do tomorrow's job.

Four jobs, off your desk,
done every week

Bookkeeping

Sales, purchases, cash and card takings entered and reconciled to the bank every week, not every January. Your accounts stay a week old instead of a year old, so the numbers you make decisions on are real.

Credit control

Invoices out the day the meat goes out, statements on a schedule, and the polite, persistent chasing that actually gets you paid. Done by us, so you're not the one making the awkward call to a good customer.

Payroll

Weekly or monthly, wages calculated, payslips out, RTI filed with HMRC on time, and auto-enrolment pensions handled. Starters, leavers, holiday pay, sick pay and the April rate changes. All of it.

VAT & the year-end pack

Returns prepared and filed under Making Tax Digital, with the zero-rated and standard-rated split done correctly. At year end your accountant gets a clean set of books instead of a bag, which usually costs you less in their fees, too.

A conversation,
not a commitment

We come and see you

In the shop, at a time that suits: early, or after you've shut. We look at what you've got, what's outstanding, and what's actually eating your week.

You get a fixed price

Written down, monthly, for exactly the jobs you've asked for. No hourly billing, no invoice at the end of the month that's bigger than you expected.

We clear the backlog

Whatever's been building up gets entered, reconciled and made real, so we're both starting from a number we trust rather than a guess.

Then it just runs

Same jobs, same days, every week. You get a monthly summary and a call. If it's not earning its keep, give us a month's notice and take your books with you.

One fixed monthly fee. Priced on the size of your shop and the jobs you actually want doing. A one-man shop with three trade accounts isn't the same as a six-van operation. Agreed in writing before anything starts.
No hourly billing, no set-up fee, no long contract. A month's notice either way, and your books are yours to take with you whenever you want them.
